Roads are blocked and hundreds of people are without water after a main broke in north Fulton County, officials said.
Old Alabama Road in Johns Creek is shut down in both directions between Buice Road and Waits Ferry Crossing while crews work to repair the water main, the Georgia Department of Transportation said.
According to Fulton County spokeswoman April Majors, “it has been determined that the outage is due to material and age of the 12-inch cast iron pipe.”
About 300 customers in subdivisions along Old Alabama Road between Spruill and Buice roads are affected by the outage, Majors said.
While Fulton County Water Resources officials estimated repairs will be complete by 9 p.m., they said roads may not reopen until midnight.
Until then, Johns Creek police officers are directing traffic. And crews are installing barricades and signs redirecting traffic from Old Alabama eastbound through Spruill and Buice roads to access Medlock Bridge Road, according to the GDOT.
Traffic will also be redirected on Old Alabama Road westbound from Medlock Bridge Road through Buice Road.
Use State Bridge Road as an alternate, the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center reported.
“Drivers are reminded to plan ahead as this will create delays,” the GDOT said.
