Two separate crashes involving six vehicles closed down Interstate 85 southbound for about a half-hour at the Cheshire Bridge Road exit Tuesday evening.

Police said the pileup began when a driver rear-ended a car, according to Channel 2 Action News. There were a total of four injuries, all non-life threatening, and one driver was charged with following too closely.

The widely scattered crash blocked all six lanes by exit 88, according to the state Department of Transportation.

Lanes were blocked for more than 30 minutes around 6:20 p.m. Traffic was flowing again around 7 p.m.
