A man was hit and killed Friday afternoon by an Atlanta Public Schools bus, police said.

Around 4 p.m., police were called about the bus accident at 820 James Jackson Parkway, just north of Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway in southwest Atlanta, authorities said.

Atlanta Police spokesman Sgt. Gregory Lyon said the bus was traveling south on James Jackson, “when an adult male darted into the roadway.”

The bus struck the man, killing him, authorities said.

Police said only one student and the driver were on the bus at the time.

Lyon said the bus driver likely will not face charges for the accident.

“It appears to be the fault of the deceased person,” he said. “This was not at an intersection of any kind.”

The victim has not been identified, pending notification of next of kin.
