A man faces vehicular homicide charges in a crash that killed his wife and shut down I-285 East for more than five hours Sunday.

David Cho, 61, was charged with failure to maintain a lane and second-degree vehicular homicide, Sandy Springs police said Monday.

The victim has been identified as Sue Cho, 54, of Tennessee, according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office.

Officers were called to the scene near Roswell Road just after 9 a.m. and found vehicles on both the left and right sides of the interstate, Sgt. Sam Worsham said.

Investigators later learned there were two crashes.

The first involved a Honda Accord, an Infiniti G35 and a Ford F-150 pickup truck, Worsham said.

In the second crash, Cho’s Toyota Sequoia swerved to avoid the initial crash, and the driver lost control. The car hit a guardrail on the shoulder and overturned, Worsham said.

“The passenger in the vehicle was partially ejected and pinned under the vehicle,” Worsham said.

She died on the scene.

Cho was taken to a local hospital with injuries.
