Several crashes were reported on metro Atlanta freeways Friday afternoon as time grew shorter before Christmas and traffic delays grew longer.

According to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center:

- One car was overturned in an incident involving another car and a motorcycle on northbound I-285 at Cascade Road. Two right lanes were reported closed.

- A wreck was reported on southbound I-85 at Buford Drive in Gwinnett County, not far from the Mall of Georgia;

- A crash was reported on southbound I-85 before I-985 in Gwinnett County;

- An accident was reported in Cobb County on southbound I-75 at South Marietta Parkway on the right shoulder.

Officials advised caution as the work week ended.

“Expect heavier than normal congestion on all major routes statewide, especially Friday and Saturday,” the Georgia Department of Transportation said in a statement. “Allow extra travel time, drive alert, eliminate distractions, focus on driving, and don't drink and drive.”

Friday's problems started early. A fatal crash was reported Friday morning in Cobb County on northbound I-75, with delays stretching back to I-285.

Construction-related lane closures have been suspended on interstate highways, major state routes and roads near major shopping areas and tourist locations from 5 a.m. Friday to 10 p.m. Monday. This will also be in effect from 5 a.m. Dec. 31 to 5 a.m. Jan. 2.
