Construction is causing “extremely long delays” on the Downtown Connector on Saturday, officials said — and the issues could last throughout the weekend.

The Georgia Department of Transportation posted on its website Saturday that four of six southbound lanes on the Connector were closed between Exit 249C/Williams Street and Exit 247/I-20.

” … Travelers will experience extremely long delays,” according to GDOT. “Motorists are strongly urged to use alternate routes or allow extra time for travel.”

The “major” roadwork will continue until 5 a.m. Monday.

Weekend construction is also planned for I-285, Ga. 400, U.S. 78 and other major interstates. For full information, visit Route 666, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's commuting blog.
