Nikki Haley was born Nimrata Nikki Randhawa on Jan. 20, 1972, in Bamberg, South Carolina, to Indian immigrants. She graduated from Clemson University in 1994 with a bachelor's in accounting. 1. She was born Nimrata "Nikki" Randhawa on Jan. 20, 1972, to Indian immigrants. She was born and raised in South Carolina.

2. She graduated in 1994 from Clemson University with a bachelor's in accounting. While at Clemson, she met Michael Haley. The two married in 1996.

3. In 2004, Haley won her race for the South Carolina House of Representatives. She was re-elected in 2006 and 2008.

4. When she was elected governor of South Carolina in 2010, she was the state's first woman and first minority to hold that office.

5. She became U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations in 2017.
