1. DeKalb gang leader indicted for ordering death of infant.
He died in his mother's arms on the eve of Mother's Day 2014. Despite being only 9-months-old, KenDarious Edwards Jr. was not too young to be targeted by a gang leader. The order came from behind bars at Autry State Prison, where Kenneth Eric Jackson, head of the Bloods-affiliated Sex Money Murder gang in Georgia, communicated his plans through a cellphone someone had smuggled inside, according to an indictment announced Tuesday by DeKalb County District Attorney Robert James. 3. Gonzalez firing took an awkward turn late Monday.
Finding out you've been fired is never easy, but imagine finding out the way that Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez did late Monday. An hour or so after the Braves' 8-5 series-opening loss to the Pirates, a person familiar with the situation said Gonzalez received an email notifying him of his scheduled flight to Atlanta on Tuesday afternoon.That was a bad sign, since the four-game series in Pittsburgh runs through Thursday. 4. Cops: Cobb woman offered TV on Craigslist, robbed would-be buyers.
A Cobb County woman claimed she was selling a large-screen television. When two potential buyers showed up, the woman robbed them both at gunpoint, according to police. But it wasn't hard for officers to find their suspect. Kayla Sells, 20, used her own cellphone, her arrest warrant states. In the first incident, Sells used Craigslist to advertise the TV and told a buyer to meet her at the Whisperwood Apartments in Austell at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, police said. When the man arrived, he was approached by Sells, who was holding a gun and demanding cash. Read more.
5. Fulton commission race again pits Emma Darnell against Bill Edward.
For the second election cycle in a row, it's Emma Darnell vs. Bill Edwards for Fulton County commission. In the last election, redistricting pitted the two South Fulton incumbents against each other. Darnell, who was first elected in 1992, bested Edwards, who joined the board in 2000. The two Democrats had been allies on the board, and Darnell won a narrow victory for a two-year term.
