1. Kirby Smart returns to Athens as Bulldogs coach

Smart's eyes welled up as he spoke in the main auditorium of the Georgia Center for Continuing Education in Athens on Monday. He had just been introduced as the Bulldogs' 26th head football coach and called his return to Athens a "homecoming for our family." Read more.

2. Braves listening to trade offers on pitchers Miller, Teheran

Braves officials, following the first day of baseball's Winter Meetings, were fielding calls from teams interested in starting pitchers and pitching prospects including Shelby Miller and Julio Teheran. Read more.

3. Another dead child, another grim look at DFCS

A 2-year-old was removed from her home by state child welfare officials due to safety concerns. She was placed with a family friend, who ended up starving and beating the toddler to death. The family friend and her husband were arrested Friday and charged with murder. Read more.

4. Trump calls for 'total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering' U.S.

In a statement released by his campaign Monday afternoon, Trump called for a "total and complete shutdown" of the entry of Muslims to the U.S. "until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on." Trump's campaign manager told the Associated Press that this ban would apply to both immigrants and tourists. Read more.

5. Appears certain Pruitt won't return as Georgia's defensive coordinator

Georgia defensive player Davin Bellamy, who was leading the charge to keep Pruitt, held a tone of resignation by Monday. "You always want some coaches to stay ... But at the end of the day we know Georgia's going to do what's best for us," Bellamy said. Read more.
