1. It was 50 years ago today....

When the Beatles played Atlanta on Aug. 18, 1965, the concert inaugurated the city's brand-new stadium with a 500-watt salute heard around the world.  The British band was already the biggest act on the planet, dominating radio and record sales. Their guarantee that summer was $50,000 per performance. They had just played to 55,000 people at New York's Shea Stadium — at the time, the largest-grossing concert ever — and to 17,000 at the Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto.  Read more.

2. Second state agency finds that Georgia abortion clinics dispose of tissues properly

After the Department of Community Health sent investigators to 12 facilities — including Augusta's Planned Parenthood Southeast — across the state for a broad inquiry, the state agency sent a letter Monday to Gov. Nathan Deal stating that "each licensed facility was found to be in compliance" when it came to handling abortions after the first trimester of pregnancy. Read more.

3. Sheriff says Georgia attorney sold pills, meth to undercover agents

Georgia attorney Holly Hogue Edwards was arrested Monday after an investigation revealed her alleged involvement in the distrubition and use of illegal drugs, including four counts of distributing oxycodone and one count of distributing methamphetamine. According to The Telegraph of Macon, Edwards was released on $15,000 unsecured bond Monday afternoon. Read more.

4. Cobb jury convicts man of murder after drug deal goes way wrong

Nehemiah "Miami" Anglin was convicted of felony murder and felony drug possession in the death of Damion Wright. Prosecutors are calling it a drug deal gone bad, with a twist. Anglin is to be sentenced Friday morning. Read more.

5. Flags to fly half-staff in Atlanta for the late Julian Bond

Following the death of longtime head of the NAACP and civil rights leader Julian Bond, flags over Atlanta City Hall are flying half-staff in his honor. Mayor Kasim Reed also spoke of Bond's passing at Monday's Atlanta City Council meeting. Read more.
