1. Georgia schools among top colleges in U.S. News rankings
Emory, Georgia Tech and the University of Georgia made the list of best national universities in the latest rankings list, released Wednesday. Emory tied with Georgetown University at 21st place. Georgia Tech ranked 36th and UGA shared its 61st-place with four other schools. Read more.

3. Bourn leads 18-hit attack as Braves rout Phillies, 8-1
The Braves finally won a road game as Julio Teheran pitched seven strong innings for his 10th win. The Atlanta team had a season-high 18 hits in an 8-1 series-clinching victory over the Phillies on Wednesday. Read more.
4. Absent employees costing MARTA millions
One in three MARTA employees is absent from work on any given day and the absence rate exceeds 50 percent for bus drivers, train operators or maintenance workers. A consultant's audit in 2012 showed that the high rate of call-outs cost MARTA about $11 million a year. A separate audit from another consultant late last year found that unplanned absences now sap $13.6 million from the budget. Read more.
5. Macy's closing up to 40 stores, Atlanta plans unsure
Macy's spokesman Jim Sluzewski told the Journal-Constitution Wednesday that the company has not yet decided which stores will close. However, the company plans to close up to 40 stores early next year, nearly 5 percent of its namesake department stores. The stores to be closed will represent about $300 million in combined revenue, according to the company. Read more.
