1. DeKalb grand jury split on police shootings
On Thursday, a civil grand jury split on recommending whether charges should be pursued against the officer involved in the shooting of unarmed veteran Anthony Hill in March also unanimously recommended against charges for the police officer who fatally shot Kevin Davis in his own apartment after he had called 911 for help. Contractors are soon going to begin working on a new parking deck for Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. The massive project involves more than doubling the size of its parking decks. The project is expected to take at least eight years and cost hundreds of millions of dollars, but bid documents say the total parking garage spaces would jump from 13,000 now to 32,000 after the project. 3. Gwinnett man warned police about threats before officer shot stepson
According to a 911 call released Thursday, a Gwinnett man told police that his stepson threatened his siblings and cut his brother with a knife briefly before an officer shot the 16-year-old. The man told the 911 operator he had been taking away his stepson's electronics as punishment for skipping school, drinking and staying out late. Read more.
4. General Beauregard's closed after alleged racist drink incident
It's unclear whether the Athens bar accused of having a version of a margarita called a "N*****ita" on its menu will reopen. The Confederate-themed bar's owner, Daniel Simmons, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Tuesday that he was unsure he'd reopen that night, but he did not respond to a phone message or email on Thursday. 5. Civil suit filed, Sefolosha returns to New York 'in a good place'
The Hawks guard/forward returned to New York City, but was inactive for the Hawks game against the Knicks. The trip coincides with his recent decision to file a civil lawsuit against the city and its police department involved in his arrest in April that led to a broken right fibula and ligament damage to his ankle. Sefolosha was ruled out of Thursday's game for rehabilitation. Read more.
