1. 12 injured in MARTA bus wreck

A MARTA bus was hit Thursday evening by a vehicle that reportedly ran into a stop sign and left twelve people injured. Eight people on the bus — including the driver — and four people from the other vehicle were injured. MARTA spokesman Lyle Harris stated that the injuries were non-life threatening. Read more.

2.  Atlanta judge to decide fate of 18 beluga whales

A federal judge in Atlanta could decide the fate of 18 white beluga whales from a Russian marine research station along the Black Sea. The Georgia Aquarium will try to convince the court Friday that the whales should come to the United States where they would be in Atlanta and Chicago aquariums as well as Sea World parks in Florida, Texas and California. 3. Former Peachtree City chief pleads guilty in shooting of ex-wife

Former Peachtree City Police Chief William McCollom pleaded guilty Thursday for shooting his former wife in their bed on New Year's Day, leaving her paralyzed. McCollom was sentenced to 12 months of unsupervised probation and ordered to pay a $1,000 fine. He said the shooting was an accident. Read more.

4. Alabama man gets life for killing ex-Fulton girlfriend's new boyfriend

District Attorney Paul Howard announced Thursday that Terry Marshall of Alabama will get life without parole for nearly decapitating his former girlfriend's boyfriend. A jury also convicted him of trying to kill his former girlfriend. Read more.

5. DeKalb Ethics Board reprimands Commissioner Watson

The board found Watson guilty of ethical lapses but decided against suspending him from office. They ruled that Watson had a conflict of interest when he voted twice in order to give his employer a county contract. Read more.
