Q: The Atlanta Streetcar does not stop at the intersection where there are four major tourist attractions — the World of Coca Cola, the Georgia Aquarium, the Civil Rights Museum and the Children’s Museum. The nearest stop is two long blocks away. Do we know why the streetcar line was not run to these attractions?
—Richard H. Siegel, Atlanta
A: The city secured a $47.7 million federal grant to design and build the Atlanta Streetcar, and its routes and stops were chosen to "maximize the impact" of the grant and "position the streetcar for future expansion," a spokeswoman told Q&A on the News in an email.
The streetcar stops across from Centennial Olympic Park Drive, next to the SkyView Atlanta Ferris wheel and blocks from several attractions, including the World of Coca-Cola, the Georgia Aquarium, the College Football Hall of Fame, the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, the Georgia Dome, Philips Arena, the Georgia World Congress Center and the CNN Center.
Atlanta recently received a $500,000 Federal Transit Administration grant to assist with the expansion of the streetcar, which opened on Dec. 31, 2014, and runs on a 2.7-mile route.
Q: I remember former Fox 5 anchor Amanda Davis having been arrested for DUI sometime ago. What was the outcome of that case?
—Dwayne James, Stockbridge
A: Davis received one year of probation and 40 hours of community service in November 2015, the AJC reported earlier this year.
She was charged with DUI and failure to maintain lane after being arrested in Cobb County in June 2015.
