Q: If you are the first person to pull up to a red light, should you pull up to the white line or stay back? I thought you should pull up to the white line, so I would like to know.

—Vadis Brewster, Lithonia

A: Drivers should pull up to stop lines, which are the painted white lines that are often at intersections with traffic signals or stop signs, according to Georgia law and the Georgia Drivers Manual.

“Traffic … facing a steady circular red signal alone shall stop at a clearly marked stop line,” Georgia Code 40-6-21 states.

If there isn’t a stop line, drivers should stop before entering the intersection and remain there until “an indication to proceed is shown,” it states.

The Georgia Drivers Manual states: “Drivers must come to a complete stop at the stop line, when present, not at the actual stop sign or traffic signal.”

Q: WXIA rates the weather by numbers, with 11 being the highest. What was the lowest number recorded for metro Atlanta and what was the date?

—Kathy McDonough, Peachtree Corners

A: WXIA began using the Wizometer — which "gives 11Alive viewers clear, quick and easy to understand weather reports on-air and online" — in September 2010.

There have been several 1s on the Wizometer, 11Alive chief meteorologist Chris Holcomb told Q&A on the News in an email.

For example, the Wizometer was at 1 because of thunderstorms on April 29, 2014, and then because of winter weather on Feb. 12, 2014, Holcomb wrote.
