Q: Can you tell us how many of the NFL’s 32 head coaches never played in the league?
DON WHITE, ATLANTA
A: Of the current head coaches, 23 did not play in the NFL, according to their bios and NFL.com. Those coaches include Dan Quinn with the Atlanta Falcons, Bill Belichick with the New England Patriots and Sean McVay with the Los Angeles Rams.
These nine head coaches played in the NFL: Kliff Kingsbury, Arizona Cardinals; Frank Reich, Indianapolis Colts; Ron Rivera, Carolina Panthers; Mike Vrabel, Tennessee Titans; Sean Payton, New Orleans Saints; Doug Pederson, Philadelphia Eagles; Jason Garrett, Dallas Cowboys; Doug Marrone, Jacksonville Jaguars; and Anthony Lynn, Los Angeles Chargers.
Q: I thought there was a law that limited private donations from companies or individuals to the federal government. How did Delta Air Lines get approval to donate $83,000 to keep the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park open?
BOB STRONG, MCDONOUGH
A: The National Park Service accepted the donation from The Delta Air Lines Foundation using its authority under Title 54 U.S. Code Section 101101, which allows it to accept money for the purposes of the National Park System, spokesman Mike Litterst wrote in an email. The accepted donation becomes federal funds that the agency can use for appropriate purposes, including payment of salaries, without violating Title 18 U.S. Code Section 209.
