Fort Hood, Nov. 5, 2009: U.S. Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan was born in Virginia to parents who were from a Palestinian town near Jerusalem, the Washington Post reported.

Hasan is serving a death sentence after he was found guilty of killing 13 people and wounding 32 others in the shooting at the military base in Texas.

Boston Marathon bombing, April 15, 2013: Brothers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev both were born outside the United States.

Tamerlan, who was killed by police, was born in what is now Russia.

Dzhokhar, who was born in Kyrgyzstan, was later arrested and sentenced to death.

Three people were killed and 264 others were injured in the attack.

San Bernardino, Calif., Dec. 2, 2015: Rizwan Farook was born in Chicago to parents who had come to the United States from Pakistan, the New York Times reported.

His wife, Tashfeen Malik, was born in Pakistan and had lived in Saudi Arabia, ABC News reported.

They were killed in a shootout with police more than three hours after 14 people were killed and 22 were wounded at the Inland Regional Center.

Orlando, Fla., June 12: Omar Mateen was born in New York to parents who are from Afghanistan.

He was killed by police after 49 people were killed and 53 were wounded at the Pulse nightclub.
