Q: Can you tell us what is planned where a tremendous amount of land clearing is taking place on both sides of I-20 at Lee Road, extending a great distance from Lee Road both east and west?
— Frank and Jean Shoppe, Carrollton
A: The Georgia Department of Transportation is clearing land to widen the Lee Road overpass from two to seven lanes, a project scheduled to be completed in October 2015. The project started in February. The bridge is being expanded to include two northbound lanes, two southbound lanes, two turn lanes for I-20 East and one turn lane for I-20 West. Douglas County DOT officials have also said there are plans to widen Lee Road from I-20 to Highway 92.
Q: I watched the interview with Rachel Robinson on “Today” and no one mentioned the “Jackie Robinson Story,” in which Jackie Robinson played Jackie Robinson. What happened to that movie?
— James Zoeller, Alpharetta
A: Robinson played himself in the 1950 film called "The Jackie Robinson Story," which was released just three years after Robinson broke Major League Baseball's color barrier. The movie chronicles Robinson's life, including his time at UCLA and his career from the Negro leagues, through the minors and his debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. Ruby Dee played his wife Rachel. "The Jackie Robinson Story" has been released on DVD and the entire movie also can be viewed on YouTube.
