Q: What happened to Randy & Spiff on Fox 97.1? They were hilarious.
— Kathy McDonough, Peachtree Corners
A: Randy Cook and Spiff Carner, the longtime Atlanta radio duo, are together again, this time at the Impact Partnership in Kennesaw. "We are in the radio division, along with other former Atlanta radio on-air talent, including Mike Macho, Kristen Charles, Michelle Wright and Kevin Steele, just to name a few," Carner told Q&A on the News in an email. Former Kicks 101.5 program director Mark Richards heads the department, which creates "customized financial shows and ads for advisers," Carner said. Randy & Spiff worked together at five radio stations, including Fox 97.1 in the 1990s, before being fired by what was 106.7/Atlanta's Greatest Hits in 2011. They were inducted into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame that year.
Q: What were the gifts exchanged by Pope Francis and President Barack Obama in his recent visit to the Vatican?
— Lee Means, Acworth
A: Obama presented Pope Francis with a custom-made chest filled with fruit and vegetable seeds to commemorate the pope's decision to open the papal summer residence's gardens to the public. The reclaimed mahogany and American leather for the chest are from the Baltimore Basilica, which was built from 1806 to 1821 and is one of the oldest Catholic cathedrals in the U.S. The chest was inscribed: "Presented to His Holiness Pope Francis by Barack Obama, President of the United States of America, March 27, 2014." Pope Francis gave two medallions and a copy of his book, called "Evangelii Gaudium," or "The Joy of the Gospel," to the president, CNN.com reported.
