Q: Where was 6th Congressional District candidate Karen Handel born and what are her college degrees? Can you please provide information about her involvement with the Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundation?

—Hank Collier, Dunwoody

A: Handel was born in Washington, D.C. She attended Prince George's Community College in Largo, Md., as well as the University of Maryland's University College, but does not have a degree, her spokeswoman, Kate Constantini, told Q&A on the News via email.

She does not have any current involvement with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the world’s largest nonprofit funder of breast cancer research. She resigned from her role as vice president for public policy for the nonprofit in 2012, following the organization’s policy change, which was later reversed, that would have barred Komen from funding Planned Parenthood. Handel is running in the 6th Congressional District runoff election June 20 to succeed former U.S. Rep. Tom Price.

Q: Why was Greg Maddux not present at the SunTrust Park opening ceremonies?

—Yolanda T. Rossi, Roswell

A: Maddux is a volunteer pitching coach at University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where his son is on the roster, and they had a game that day, a Braves spokesman told Q&A on the News.

Maddux, who was a pitcher for the Braves from 1993 to 2003, is a multiple Cy Young award winner and was inducted in 2014 into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
