Q: What is former Falcons coach Mike Smith doing? Is he interested in getting back into football? What do the Falcons owe on his contract?

—Mike Blalock, Marietta

A: Smith, who was fired Dec. 29, was mentioned as a candidate for the defensive coordinator position with the Oakland Raiders, but ESPN.com reported late last month that he likely would not coach in 2015. The Raiders hired Ken Norton Jr. as their defensive coordinator.

Smith won more games than any other coach in Falcons franchise history, compiling a 66-46 record in seven seasons, but they were 1-4 in playoff games during his time. The Falcons were 4-12 in 2013 and 6-10 last year after losing to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship game in the 2012 season.

Terms of Smith’s two contract extensions – in 2011 and 2014 – were not disclosed. His original deal was for $2.2 million a season when he hired in 2008.

Q: Is Channel 11 anchor Karyn Greer still on that station? I haven’t seen her in a while.

—Alexis Weisman, Atlanta

A: Greer has been on medical leave, she told Q&A on the News in an email. "I'm trying to get back on my feet as soon as possible," she wrote. "Thanks to all who have sent cards, flowers and lots of prayers. They have truly brightened my day and make me feel so loved and missed." Greer moved from anchoring the morning news to the noon broadcast last summer.
