Q: With the USA Swimming training camp being moved to Atlanta for the 2016 Olympics, what is the schedule for public viewing of the camp? How do you get tickets? If none, why not?

—Tom Gould, Decatur

A: There are plans to open the USA Swimming pre-Olympic camp to the public, but the date and times haven't been set, spokesman Scott Leightman told Q&A on the News.

USA Swimming moved a pre-Olympic training camp from Puerto Rico to Atlanta because of the Zika threat.

The camp will be held at Georgia Tech’s McAuley Aquatic Center in late July, after USA Swimming’s camp in San Antonio concludes on July 21.

The swimming, diving and synchronized swimming competitions were held at Georgia Tech in the 1996 Olympics.

The Olympics begin Aug. 5 in Rio de Janeiro.

Q: When I was a kid, Smokey Bear’s motto was “Only you can prevent forest fires.” Today, it’s “Only you can prevent wildfires.” When did the motto change, and why?

—Donald Varn, Conyers

A: The original phrase — "Smokey says — care will prevent 9 out of 10 forest fires" – was used when the wildfire prevention campaign began in 1944.

That slogan was revamped to “Remember … only you can prevent forest fires” in 1947, according to smokeybear.com.

That phrase was used until 2001, when it was changed to “Only you can prevent wildfires,” “in response to a massive outbreak of wildfires in natural areas other than forests,” the website states.

Wildfire means “any unwanted, unplanned, uncontrolled outdoor fire.”
