Q: I received an absentee ballot for the Nov. 3 election, which states the following: “DeKalb County Board of Ethics Referendum: Shall the Act be approved, which revises the Board of Ethics for DeKalb County?” How does it revise it? I’ve searched all over the Internet and can’t find what this referendum means.
—Linda McGraw, Brookhaven
A: The referendum would amend the DeKalb County Organizational Act, which would change the way members of the county's board of ethics are appointed.
County politicians would no longer pick the members of the DeKalb County Board of Ethics. Instead, community groups would select board members, as stated in House Bill 597, which was approved earlier this year.
Board of Ethics members will be selected by the DeKalb Bar Association, the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce, the DeKalb legislative delegation, the judge of the DeKalb Probate Court, Leadership DeKalb, DeKalb colleges and universities, and the chief judge of DeKalb Superior Court, the AJC reported in April.
DeKalb County’s special election notice states the referendum needs “more than one-half of the votes cast” for approval.
Q: Where did Karyn Greer on Channel 11 go?
—Juanita Golson, Atlanta
A: Greer has worked as a freelance reporter for CBS46 since she left 11 Alive in March.
She worked for 11 Alive for 15 years and was an anchor at WGNX-TV (now called CBS46) from 1989-99, the AJC reported.
