Q: I was a longtime listener to 90.1-FM WABE’s classical music during the day, and they changed to an all-news format about a year and a half ago. Has the station’s listenership stayed steady or changed since the change?
—Susan Rawls, Atlanta
A: WABE-FM's audience has remained steady through the switch from a classical music to daytime talk format in January 2015.
The station, which is affiliated with NPR (National Public Radio), averaged a 3 rating, according to Nielsen Audio data, in the first six months of 2016, the AJC reported last month, “up slightly from 2.92 during the first half of 2015.”
WABE now has a younger demographic.
Ratings have increased 59 percent in the 10 a.m.-3 p.m. time slot among people 25 to 54 years old.
Two shows — “Morning Edition” (9 percent) and “All Things Considered” (35 percent) — are up and “ratings among 18 to 34 year olds is up an impressive 69 percent year over year,” the AJC reported.
Q: What can I do to help birds that are nesting and having babies in the corner of my porch survive in this hot weather?
—Robert Roper, Marietta
A: Provide fresh water in a birdbath and reduce disturbances in the area, a spokesman with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources told Q&A on the News in an email.
The state’s native wildlife is “used to the Georgia heat,” he wrote, but “the water will be used by birds and other animals in your yard.”
Do not disturb the nest and stay away from the young, even if they are on the porch, the ground, in shrubs or trees, he wrote.
