Q: The page of information about Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport mentions that the international terminal has a long-term park-ride lot, but doesn’t describe where it is, how to get there or how much it costs. Can you help?

— Bill Boyd, Newnan

A: The international terminal's long-term parking lot, which has 2,400 spaces, is located off Maynard H. Jackson Boulevard after exiting I-75 (Exit 239). There are several signs on Maynard H. Jackson Boulevard directing motorists to the parking lot, which is identified by the first sign with a "P." There is a shuttle from long-term parking to the international terminal. There also is a short-term garage, with more than 1,100 spaces, and Gold reserve parking, which requires registration. Long-term parking rates are $3 an hour and $12 a day. More parking information can be found at www.atlanta-airport.com/internationalterminal/passenger/parking.html.

Q: What are the qualifications to be a National Safety and Transportation Board (NTSB) investigator?

— Jeff Jones, Euharlee

A: The NTSB's investigators generally have a background in transportation, which can include work with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) air traffic controllers, pilots, maritime experts and aerospace engineers, according to the NTSB's website (www.ntsb.gov). Hazardous material experts also are hired to be investigators and the NTSB also has an intern and co-op program. "Several of our senior investigators and managers started out as student interns and have risen through the ranks over many years," according to the website. Air safety investigators often are former pilots with varying levels of experience.
