Q: Does the U.S. give the Philippines any financial aid? — Eddie Webster, Douglasville

A: The U.S. allocated $178 million in foreign assistance to the Philippines for the fiscal year that ends Sept. 30. That includes $50 million in annual military assistance, an increase from $30 million last year and its highest level since 2000. The U.S. also provided about $86 million in aid to assist in the recovery after Typhoon Haiyan devastated the nation last year. The U.S. has given more than $312 million in military aid and various types of military equipment to the Philippines since 2002. The countries recently agreed on a deal that will allow American military forces to return to the Philippines on a scale unmatched since U.S. troops left in the early 1990s.

Q: One of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson's daughters recently moved to New York City. Is there any sign that either of them will be getting married anytime soon? — Jean Higgins, Atlanta

A: There have been no published reports of engagements or impending weddings for either Princess Beatrice or Princess Eugenie, the granddaughters of Queen Elizabeth II. Beatrice, 25, is in a seven-year relationship with Dave Clark, who works for Virgin Galactic. The British press has reported that Beatrice is heavily involved with friend and actress Mila Kunis' engagement to actor Ashton Kutcher. Eugenie, 24, has been dating Jack Brooksbank for more than three years, but she moved to New York City last year, where she works for Paddle8, an online auction house.
