Q: I enjoyed the article about notable women featured in comic book form in a recent AJC. That is a great idea. Do you know where we can purchase these comic books for our granddaughters?
—Diane Conklin, Milton
A: The comic books in the series called "Female Force" can be purchased from comicfleamarket.com.
Most are priced at $3.99, but limited editions and graphic novels in the series cost more.
“Female Force” features “strong women in today’s society that have inspired generations and shaped the culture of today,” series creator Darren G. Davis said in a release from Storm Entertainment (stormfrontpublishing.wordpress.com).
Women in the series include Cher, Hillary Clinton, Madonna, Michelle Obama, Nancy Reagan, Condoleezza Rice and J.K. Rowling, among many others.
“Kids and adults alike can look up to these women as great role models,” Davis said. “One of the coolest things about the comic books is that we found schools using them for reluctant readers.”
The books also can be found on Amazon.com and eBay.com, and also are available for electronic devices.
Q: William Shakespeare is nicknamed and known as the “Bard.” Is Bard College, in upstate New York, named after him?
—Kenneth Riley, College Park
Q: Bard College is named for John Bard, who founded St. Stephen's College in 1860.
Bard later donated part of his estate to the college, which was renamed for him in 1934.
