Q: What is the status of the Clifton Ridge development in Druid Hills?
—Bill Markert, Decatur
A: DeKalb County Interim CEO Lee May denied final plat approval for Clifton Ridge on Oct. 30, which means there are no county-approved lots.
The proposed subdivision, near the intersection of Clifton and Oxford roads in Druid Hills, has been the subject of several lawsuits for more than 10 years. The Georgia Supreme Court “denied both the developer’s and DeKalb County’s appeal of the Druid Hills Civic Association’s Planning Commission Decision case on Oct. 20, which means that case will be heard on the merits in DeKalb Superior Court,” the Deny Clifton Ridge/Preserve Druid Hills task force told Q&A on the News in an email.
The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia “dismissed all claims brought by the developer in a federal action, including claims against two DeKalb County commissioners and the DHCA” on Oct. 28. The DHCA called it “the best 10-day period in our 10-year effort to Deny Clifton Ridge/Preserve Druid Hills.”
Q: Is WSB-TV meteorologist Brian Monahan related to Patrick Monahan, the lead singer of Train?
—Renee Henry, Marietta
A: As far as Brian Monahan knows, they are not related. "I've gotten that question quite a bit over my career," he told Q&A on the News in an email. "Since we have the same last name, I'm sure it's possible there's some distant relationship somewhere, but as far as I know — nothing. I've gotten the, "You look like him," email before, but no relation." Monahan joined WSB-TV in September, giving the network five meteorologists.
