Q: Why has construction stopped on Northside Drive between I-75 and West Wesley? It appears nothing has happened in months.
—Kevin Kell, Atlanta
A: Construction continues along that stretch and crews also are working in other areas "within the project limits (I-75 to Northside Parkway)," a Georgia DOT spokeswoman told Q&A on the News in an email.
The project includes replacing the waterline with a larger one, replacing the reversible lanes with a two-way left turn lane from Collier Road to Northside Parkway and removing the reversible lane from I-75 to Collier Road.
Other changes include adding a left turn lane from Northside Drive to Collier Road and upgrading sidewalks and traffic lights and repaving the roads, she wrote.
The entire project is scheduled to be finished in the winter of 2018.
“This project is proposed to increase safety and improve traffic congestion on the corridor,” GDOT states on a factsheet.
Q: I’ve noticed over the past few months that the clouds are very high, mountainous and fluffy white. This is most unusual. Do you know why?
—Ray Prior, Newnan
A: There has been a large amount of tropical air over Georgia during that time.
When that moist air combines with the state’s summer heat, it rises into the atmosphere, “sometimes to heights over 40,000 feet,” Glenn Burns, chief meteorologist for Channel 2 Action News, told Q&A on the News in an email.
