The Beltline would be a 22-mile loop of transit, trails and parks around the city's core.

The Atlanta Beltline is a proposed loop of rail transit, trails and parks around the city's core. In this rendering of a proposed development near Grant Park, a pedestrian path runs along a rail line.

City Hall East is a prime site along the proposed Beltline transit and development corridor. The development firm of Ponce Park LLC headed by developer Emory Morsberger was selected to rehabilitate and redevelop the site for a sale price of $33 million.

This rendering shows what the redeveloped City Hall East, called Ponce Park, and Ponce Park South might look like in several years. The proposed Beltline is immediately east of the buildings. Between them runs North Avenue. To the north of Ponce Park is Ponce de Leon Avenue. A 14-story tower (top center) might be built next to the rail line.

A piazza would be the main entrance to Ponce Park on North Avenue, where people could walk, sit and visit shops.

The Beltline promises to transform a largely forgotten freight rail corridor into a showpiece loop that connects places of interest in the city.

The Beltline project has won approval from city, county and school officials and has given impetus to many development efforts. Gordon White Park, in the West End, would be redeveloped as part of the project.

Construction workers take apart the old Peach State Wrecker warehouse on the corner of Boulevard and Englewood Avenue where a 21-acre Beltline park is planned in the area dubbed the Beltline Crossing.
