A portion of Peachtree Road, near Collier Road and Piedmont Hospital, was blocked Monday evening due to a suspicious package, according to Atlanta police.
The package was actually a woman’s purse. But the damage was already done for evening commuters, who experienced a traffic nightmare.
The package was located near a FedEx store in the 1900 block of Peachtree Road around 5:15 p.m., Officer John Chafee said.
“Witnesses advised officers that two males were seen with a bag and they appeared to be acting suspiciously,” Chafee said in an emailed statement. “The males placed the bag in front of the FedEx business and left the area.”
Officers closed Peachtree Road in the area while a SWAT team arrived. But the package was determined to be harmless and contained only a purse, Chafee said.
Peachtree Road re-opened shortly before 8 p.m.
