DeKalb County police Friday identified a suspected robber who was fatally shot by a homeowner as 21-year-old Jeremy Etheridge.

About 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, two masked gunmen approached the 29-year-old homeowner as he returned to his Hairston Crossing Way home and demanded cash, police said.

The homeowner was able to get his Glock .45 and shoot Etheridge, police said. The second would-be robber shot the homeowner in the arm and side, then ran away.

The homeowner went to a neighbor’s house for help. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives told Channel 2 Action News three handguns and an ammunition clip were found in the street in front of the house and a vehicle believed to be a getaway car was found nearby.

No decision has been made about whether the homeowner will be charged because the incident remains under investigation, DeKalb police spokeswoman Mekka Parish told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. His name has not been released because the second would-be robber remains at large.
