A southwest Georgia man whom police describe as a member of a violent street gang was arrested during a traffic stop in Coweta County and now faces multiple drugs and weapons charges, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced in a report Monday.

According to a GBI report, 28-year-old Stephen Michael Goodbread of Cuthbert, Georgia, and 32-year-old Shawna Hutto were taken into custody March 3 as the pair headed south on Interstate 85.

The report alleges the car was full of drugs and guns.

During the stop, Georgia State Troopers said they first found probable cause to search the vehicle and called GBI’s West Metro Regional Drug Enforcement Office for backup.

That’s when officers allegedly discovered “more than a pound of suspected methamphetamine, suspected marijuana, and suspected synthetic cannabinoid, along with an amount of suspected fentanyl,” according to the report. “A further search of the vehicle revealed two semi-automatic pistols and an assortment of prescription pills.”

Goodbread and Hutto were later interrogated and detained at the Coweta County Jail, according to the report, which does not describe the nature of their relationship.

Authorities found guns and drugs at a suspected gang member’s home in Cuthbert, Georgia, GBI says.

Both are charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession of heroin, possession of fentanyl, possession of oxycodone, possession of Alprazolam and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Goodbread was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The report said he had already been facing many of the same charges in Randolph County.

As the investigation continued, the Georgia Department of Community Supervision confirmed Goodbread as a member of the Gangster Disciples after his tattoos raised the suspicions of officers who questioned him, according to the report.

Agents then reached out to investigators at the GBI Southwestern Regional Drug Enforcement Office, who were able to determine Goodbread's address in Cuthbert.

Officers later moved in on the residence, which is about a two-hour drive from where the two were arrested.

At the home, police found an AR-15 rifle with a laser sight and high capacity magazine along with two bolt action rifles and one handgun, the report said. Agents also seized more suspected methamphetamine and synthetic marijuana, the report said.

GBI credited the take-down to the cooperation of multiple law enforcement agencies across the state.
