Atlanta police are searching for a man they say robbed a person at gunpoint in their own apartment last month and stole their pit bull puppy.

Investigators are still working to identify the alleged armed robber and find the stolen puppy, which was taken from a home in the 800 block of Penn Avenue in northeast Atlanta on Aug. 29. The victim was taken to a hospital with multiple lacerations after the suspect hit him repeatedly with the butt of the gun, according to a police incident report.

The victim told police he had been driving his 2008 Acura MDX on Piedmont Avenue about 3:30 a.m. when he saw a man carrying a duffle bag walking down the street, according to the incident report.

The victim stopped his car and invited the man into his vehicle, the report said. The victim then took the man to his home with him.

The victim told police he and the suspect sat outside for about a half-hour. Later, they went inside and had drinks together and the suspect went into the bathroom, the incident report said.

When he came out, he was holding a black revolver.

The suspect held the gun to the victim’s head and told him to get on the ground. The victim complied, but he grabbed at the barrel of the gun in an effort to take it away from the suspect, the report said.

After the robber hit him with the gun multiple times, the victim managed to run out of the apartment and get help from his neighbors. Meanwhile, the suspect loaded the victim’s small puppy named Buddy into a dog crate and walked out of the back door of the unit with some of the victim’s personal valuables, the incident report said.

The suspect also smashed the back window of the victim’s Acura to retrieve the duffle bag that he had left inside, police said.

The suspect was last seen walking south on Penn Avenue toward Ponce de Leon Avenue carrying the bag in one hand and the puppy in the other. Anyone with information on the suspect’s identity is asked to contact Atlanta police.
