A man was caught on tape shooting and robbing a store clerk at a gas station in Jonesboro early Tuesday morning, and he’s still on the run, Clayton County police said.

Officers were called to the Chevron gas station in the 7000 block of Tara Boulevard about 2:50 a.m. concerning shots fired, police spokeswoman Sgt. Ashanti Marbury said. They found the clerk, whose name was not released, behind the counter area suffering from a gunshot wound, police said. The clerk was in such bad shape, he was unable to give officers any details about the shooting and robbery. He was taken to a hospital. His condition was not known.

Detectives said surveillance footage showed a man entering the convenience store at 2:33 a.m. He was wearing a red hoodie. Video captured him as he confronted the clerk, shot the clerk and then forced him back to the register area to open a cash drawer, police said. The man is seen on camera emptying the cash drawer and then walking out of the store, according to police.

Anyone with information about the man is asked to call 911 or Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477.
