The man authorities believe shot and killed a man last week outside a DeKalb County motel was captured Tuesday in south Georgia.

DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Cynthia Williams said the suspect, Zaki Rauf Musheem, was detained Tuesday by authorities in Hinesville, a city about 40 miles southwest of Savannah. Musheem, who had not previously been named as a suspect, has been charged with felony murder in connection with the death of Keith Toney Wood, who was shot outside the Stone Mountain Inn near Tucker on April 8.

Officers responded to the motel on the 1800 block of Mountain Industrial Boulevard around 7:30 p.m. that day and found a man dead from a gunshot wound.

“According to the preliminary investigation, the victim and suspect were involved in a verbal altercation that escalated and the suspect pulled out a weapon and shot the victim,” DeKalb police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said at the time.

Information regarding how Musheem was identified as a suspect was not released. Williams said he was detained by Liberty County authorities after his location was determined by DeKalb County authorities.
