Spring events are in full swing, with various performances, concerts, fairs and festivals in the works for the weekend. Here’s what you need to know:
Festivals, fine arts and food: The Georgia Renaissance Festival, which began April 19 and runs through June 8, will continue this weekend at the Georgia Renaissance Festival Grounds in Fairburn. In addition, the Grayson Day Festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in Grayson Community Park on Park Drive.
Meanwhile, the Taste of East Point, which will feature food and wine, local artwork and musicians, will be held on Cleveland Avenue from 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Click here for a full list of weekend events.
Hawks-Pacers Game 4: The Hawks will take on the Pacers for Game 4 of the Eastern Conference playoff series on Saturday. The Hawks, leading 2-1 in the best-of-seven series, need two additional wins to eliminate the Pacers. Tipoff is at 2 p.m. at Philips Arena.
Braves-Reds: The Atlanta Braves will play against the Cincinnati Reds at 7:10 p.m. Saturday and 1:35 p.m. Sunday at Turner Field.
Weather for the weekend: Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said it will be a sunny weekend, with temperatures reaching the low 80s Saturday and Sunday.
Isolated storms are possible Sunday afternoon, Channel 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz said. The risk for heavy rain and strong to severe storms begins late Monday through Wednesday, he said. Rainfall amounts of two to three inches are likely, Nitz said. Check the full weekend forecast and track changes.
Road closures: The ramp at the I-75/Northside Drive interchange will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Saturday while maintenance crews repair a guardrail. Motorists should use Howell Mill Road to access I-75 southbound during the closure.
One left lane of I -285 westbound from I-20 to State Route 400 will be closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday as crews work on the barrier wall. Minor delays are expected.
“We are doing our best to limit daytime lane closures if possible in order to minimize the inconvenience to motorists,” district construction engineer Shun Pringle said. “However, some work just has to be done during the day.”
Elsewhere in metro Atlanta, a Georgia DOT resurfacing project that stretches from Ga. 20/Ga. 138 in Rockdale County to Alcovy Road in Newton County starts Friday night, weather permitting.
“This section of roadway was last paved in 1988 and is definitely in need of resurfacing,” Pringle said. “Plan your alternative route ahead of time if you want to miss the delays.”
From 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, two left lanes will also be closed on I-20 westbound from Almon Road to Ga. 20/Ga. 138. For up-to-the-minute weekend traffic updates, click here.
