It may be mid-December, but it sure doesn’t feel like it outside.

After a chilly start to the week, another unseasonably warm day is on tap for Sunday with an afternoon high of 65 degrees, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said.

Showers rolled through metro Atlanta on Saturday night, but the wet weather should move out before the second half of the weekend, according to the latest forecast.

“Sunday, we’re going to be clearing out, so much of the day will be even drier and brighter,” Deon said.

There’s still a 20% chance of rain in Atlanta, but showers aren’t expected to begin until late Sunday evening. The rain will likely continue overnight ahead of a wet start to the workweek. The chance of showers jumps to 90% on Monday.

“It is going to be a very wet start to the day (Monday),” Deon said, adding that heavy downpours are expected across the city during the morning commute.

Drivers planning on hitting the roads this weekend may want to give themselves a little extra time to reach their destinations as Georgia Department of Transportation crews have several projects planned on metro Atlanta’s interstates.

Overnight lane closures are expected on both I-285 and Ga. 400 as GDOT contractors make road repairs, construct bridges and install noise barriers, officials said. All lanes should reopen by 5 a.m. Monday.
