Atlanta’s heat streak is expected to continue through the second half of the weekend, but so is the recent pattern of evening showers.
Scattered storms rolled through North Georgia on Saturday afternoon, prompting severe thunderstorm warnings in some counties. While the chance of rain is expected to drop to just 40% on Sunday, those with outdoor plans may want to pack an umbrella just in case.
“We start off dry on Sunday, very similar to (Saturday), although I think the rain will be a little less likely,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said. “We are expecting to see showers and storms. However, I don’t think we’ll see as many.”
The morning should start off in the low 70s in Atlanta before quickly reaching a high of 90 degrees, according to the latest forecast. The rain isn’t expected to move in until sometime after lunch.

Those afternoon showers will likely stick around through the middle of next week.
“Monday’s still hot with a high in the low 90s, but on Tuesday and Wednesday the rain chances will ramp up,” Deon said. “The wet weather should cool things off slightly, dropping temperatures to the upper 80s by midweek.”
Drivers can expect delays across parts of metro Atlanta this weekend as Georgia Department of Transportation crews continue interstate construction and bridge repair projects.
Overnight ramp closures are planned along the Downtown Connector for a rehabilitation project on the 17th Street bridge. As a result, drivers looking to get into Midtown between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. will be required to take the 14th Street exit, according to GDOT.
Construction is expected to wrap up by Monday morning.
