Mother Nature has the perfect gift picked out for your mom this year: great spring weather for her special day.

Sunday is expected to be warm and mostly rain-free, so it should be great for getting outside on Mother’s Day, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said. (Only if your mom wants to venture out, of course.)

It should be partly cloudy with a high of 83 degrees in metro Atlanta, according to the latest forecast. And with just a 10% chance of showers, there isn’t much risk of getting rained out.

“We’re looking good on Mother’s Day,” Deon said. We’ll have plenty of sunshine along with a few clouds mixing in, but we are not concerned with rain dampening your plans.”

Those with outdoor reservations for brunch or dinner should be in good shape, she said. Enjoy it while you can, however. Widespread rain is expected to return to North Georgia overnight, and it could stick around for several days.

Monday could be a total washout, with scattered thunderstorms and a 70% chance of showers to start the workweek, according to Channel 2. The chance of rain drops to 30% on Tuesday, but off-and-on showers are expected through at least midweek.

“By the time we get into the middle of the week, some areas could see 1 to 2 inches of rainfall,” Deon said.

The Georgia Department of Transportation has several construction projects planned this weekend that could lead to delays in parts of metro Atlanta. In DeKalb County, for instance, overnight lane closures may slow traffic in both directions of I-285 as crews resurface the Perimeter between Clifton Springs Road and Moreland Avenue.

Drivers could also see “rolling closures” on I-20 as GDOT crews restripe the stretch of interstate between Windsor Street in Atlanta and Columbia Drive in DeKalb. All lanes should reopen in time for Monday morning’s commute.

In Cobb County, drivers may have to compete with some stadium traffic Sunday evening as the Atlanta Braves host the Philadelphia Phillies for the third game of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:08 p.m. and stadium capacity is back to 100%, so watch out for delays near the I-75/I-285 interchange and the surface streets around the Battery.
