Summer showers are expected to continue through the second half of the weekend, putting a damper on those outdoor plans.
Sunday isn’t expected to be a complete washout, but isolated storms are expected across metro Atlanta, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Jennifer Lopez said.
The wet conditions will likely continue for most of the workweek, with rain expected through at least Wednesday, according to the latest forecast.
“We don’t anticipate these storms to become too strong,” Lopez said, “but they could produce some pretty heavy rainfall.”

Isolated showers moved through metro Atlanta on Saturday afternoon, but the chance of rain increases to 60% on Sunday. The afternoon high is expected to reach 87 degrees in the city, setting the tone for another muggy day.
It’s unclear how the rain could affect the NASCAR Quaker State 400, which will be held Sunday afternoon at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Henry County drivers should expect traffic delays near the track ahead of the race, which starts about 3:30 p.m.
After postponing major construction projects last weekend for the Fourth of July holiday, Georgia Department of Transportation crews have resumed roadwork across metro Atlanta.
Drivers will likely run into delays near the I-285/Ga. 400 interchange as work continues there.
Buckhead drivers could also see more traffic than usual as one lane of Roswell Road will be closed this weekend while crews install a stormwater drain at East Andrews Road.
