Sunday isn’t expected to be quite as rainy as Saturday was, but those heading outdoors may want to bring an umbrella just in case.

The second half of the weekend will start off mostly dry in metro Atlanta, but isolated showers could return in the afternoon, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said.

“We start off mostly dry with a lot of clouds around, but we’re expecting to see some clearing,” she said. “There will still be some rain, but definitely not as much coverage as (Saturday)."

The afternoon high is expected to reach 85 degrees in the city, and there’s a 40% chance of rain, according to the latest forecast. The pop-up showers are expected to stick around for the start of the work week and linger through at least Wednesday.

Temperatures should start to drop by midweek, however, making it feel a little more like fall outside, Deon said. Wednesday is expected to top out at just 78 degrees.

Parts of South Florida saw heavy rain as Tropical Storm Sally developed off the coast on Saturday afternoon, The Associated Press reported.

Sally emerged from a tropical depression swirling off the tip of Florida, and is on a forecast track bound for the Gulf of Mexico. It is expected to become a hurricane by late Monday and could threaten a wide swath of the northern Gulf coast early next week, according to the latest projections.

“We will continue to watch it closely, although there shouldn’t be any direct impacts on North Georgia,” Deon said.

Several construction projects are underway this weekend that could cause delays on metro Atlanta’s interstates, Georgia Department of Transportation officials said.

In Fulton County, drivers should expect lane and ramp closures at Langford Parkway and I-285 as crews resume bridge rehabilitation projects that were suspended over Labor Day weekend.

Drivers should also expect overnight lane closures in the southbound lanes of I-75 this weekend as GDOT crews repair nine bridges in Cobb County. The road work is expected to wrap up by 4 a.m. Monday.
