The picturesque first weekend of fall will continue on Sunday with blue skies and a high of 80 degrees.

Metro Atlanta got its first taste of cooler weather this past week, but temperatures are expected to increase slightly over the next several days, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said.

There’s no rain forecast through at least Wednesday, and with little humidity in the air, it’s a perfect time to get outside.

“First weekend of fall and it’s gorge!” Deon said Saturday morning on Twitter. “Get outdoors and enjoy!”

The average high this time of year is about 82 degrees, but Sunday morning is expected to get off to a relatively cool start with temperatures in the high 50s, according to Channel 2. Those with early morning plans may want to bring a sweater or a light jacket.

“A little bit of a chilly start, but it’s going to be nice overall,” Deon said, “especially in the afternoon hours when we start to warm up. We are going to see plenty of sunshine, so make sure you grab those shades.”

The start of the workweek should be even warmer, with temperatures increasing slightly each day through Wednesday, according to the latest forecast.

“It is going to return to more summer-like warmth as we head through the next few days, but at least we are keeping it nice and dry,” Deon said.

Georgia Department of Transportation crews plan to take full advantage of the nice weather this weekend, but that could mean construction-related delays for metro Atlanta drivers. In Cobb County, overnight lane closures are expected along Powder Springs Road for a resurfacing project between Windy Hill and Sandtown Roads, GDOT said.

Ongoing construction on I-85 North could lead to overnight delays for drivers in Fulton and DeKalb counties this weekend as lane closures are planned between the Brookwood Interchange and Clairmont Road. And an 8-mile stretch of roadwork along U.S. 78 will likely impact drivers in three counties: Cobb, Fulton and Douglas. Alternating lanes will be blocked off each night starting at 9 p.m. officials said, but all lanes should reopen by 5 a.m. Monday.
