Metro Atlanta’s cold streak will continue through much of Sunday as residents wake up to sub-freezing temperatures.
The morning low is expected to be just 28 degrees in Atlanta, but the wind chill will make it feel even colder, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said. By 8 a.m. it should feel about 23 degrees in the city and even cooler in parts of northwest Georgia, according to the latest forecast.
“You’ll definitely need to bundle up as you make your way out and about,” Deon said.
The frigid weather shouldn’t stick around all day, however. By the afternoon, temperatures are expected to warm slightly as the clouds clear out and sunshine returns.
Sunday’s high is expected to reach 51 degrees in the city, so those looking to get outside for the second half of the weekend may want to wait until it starts to warm up. There’s no rain in the forecast until Monday morning, when the chance of showers returns.

A mix of rain and snow flurries is possible in parts of far North Georgia to kick off the work week, but those in metro Atlanta should probably just plan for a cool, rainy Monday with temperatures in the upper 40s.

There are several overnight lane closures planned along I-75 and I-285 this weekend as Georgia Department of Transportation crews repair bridges in Fulton, Cobb and Clayton counties. The road work should be completed just in time for Monday morning’s commute.
