Metro Atlanta residents may have lost an hour overnight, but they’ll have more time Sunday evening to enjoy the warm sunshine.
After “springing forward” an hour for daylight saving time, the sun won’t set until about 8 p.m. It may be the last full weekend of winter, but it sure won’t feel like it with afternoon temperatures approaching 80 degrees, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said.
Sunday is expected to be partly cloudy, but there shouldn’t be any rain for the second half of the weekend, according to the latest forecast.
“Short sleeves and shorts are a go this afternoon,” Deon said. “You might even need the sunglasses.”
The afternoon high is expected to reach 78 degrees in Atlanta, which is 14 degrees above average for this time of year. Unfortunately, Georgia’s pollen count is starting to increase as the weather warms up, so those with severe springtime allergies may want to limit their time outdoors, Deon said.
After several dry days, rain is expected to return Monday afternoon and linger for much of the workweek.

“We’re going to notice some big changes coming our way as a cold front moves in,” Deon said. “We’re talking rain that’s going to be heavy at times lasting through the day on Tuesday.”
Another round of showers and storms is expected to move through North Georgia on Wednesday, and some areas could see more than 2 inches of rain by midweek, Deon said. After a warmer than average weekend, temperatures are expected to drop into the high 60s as widespread showers return.
As for traffic, the Georgia Department of Transportation has several projects underway that could cause delays on metro Atlanta’s interstates.
To help ease backups caused by roadwork on I-75 South in Cobb County, the Northwest Corridor Express Lanes will run south until Monday at noon, GDOT said. Drivers should also expect delays near the Ga. 400/I-285 interchange as construction continues there.
