Metro Atlanta residents are in store for another chilly day on Sunday as the cool weather sticks around for the remainder of the weekend.
The afternoon high is expected to reach 50 degrees in the city, though the morning won’t be quite as cold as it was Saturday, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Jennifer Lopez said.
Rain moved into parts of North Georgia overnight, and those isolated showers are expected to linger through about 2 p.m., according to the latest forecast. While the 60% chance of rain could put a damper on any early outdoor plans, Sunday shouldn’t be a complete washout.
“Scattered showers are expected early in the morning and they’re probably going to continue until the middle of Sunday,” Lopez said. “As we go through the later part of the day we’ll start to see some improving weather, but the clouds stay with us through much of Sunday.”
The good news, she said, is that the weather should warm up heading into Christmas.

Monday will be mostly cloudy in metro Atlanta as temperatures reach the mid-50s, and Tuesday and Wednesday should be closer to 60 degrees. All three days are expected to remain rain free.
Daytime lane closures are planned along I-285 this weekend as Georgia Department of Transportation crews work look to repair a 17-mile stretch of the Perimeter between South Fulton Parkway and Paces Ferry Road. On Sunday, drivers should expect closures in two left lanes of I-285 North between Cascade Road to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
The lane closures will be in place from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m., GDOT said.
