A student has been arrested for allegedly threatening to shoot people Monday at Paulding County High School, according to police.

The arrest Sunday night came just a few hours into an investigation to determine if the threat was legitimate, the Sheriff's Office said. The boy, whose name and age were not released, was charged with terroristic threats, disruption of a public school and with being an unruly juvenile, the Sheriff's Office posted on its Facebook page.

“The investigation continues into these threats,” the Sheriff’s Office said. “Parents and students will still see an increased law enforcement presence at PCHS in the morning.”

The anonymous threat was reportedly from a student planning to bring a gun to school and shoot people, the Sheriff’s Office said earlier Sunday. School system leaders were assisting deputies with the investigation. Details about how the threat was allegedly made were not released.

Students are scheduled to return to classes Monday after a week-long Fall break. Parents were notified of the threat through an automated call system.

The Paulding threat comes just two days after a large classroom building on the University of Georgia campus was evacuated due to a threat made on social media. A 19-year-old student was arrested Friday night for the hoax, according to police.
