A Stephenson High School football player was shot Sunday afternoon during a fight on campus, according to DeKalb County school police.

The player, whose name was not released, was at the school for a team meeting to view video from Friday night’s game when a fight broke out in the parking lot with teenagers that are not Stephenson students, according to Horace Dunson, athletics director for DeKalb County schools. The teen was shot in the abdomen and transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released.

School system police were investigating whether the fight was related to a prior dispute between a Stephenson student and the other group of teenagers, but did not involve the student who was shot, Dunson said.

Stephenson’s football practice was canceled Monday afternoon.
