Criminal charges may be filed in the Wednesday shooting of a 4-year-old girl in Clayton County.
The girl’s mother heard a loud “pop” while driving on Fayetteville Road at Towngate Boulevard near Jonesboro at about 11:15 a.m., said Lt. Chris Windley with Clayton police. Police said the mother turned around and saw her daughter slump over.
The victim was airlifted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. Channel 2 Action News reported the girl was shot in the head, and the GBI reported Wednesday evening that she is alive. Her condition, however, was not immediately available.
The gunshot came from within the van, Windley said. A weapon was confiscated and the van was impounded for further examination. The shooting remains under investigation.
