Stone Mountain Park will be closed Saturday to prevent protesters from gathering there.

Here’s what you need to know.

The park is closed to vehicles and pedestrians, including ticket-holders to Snow Mountain and other attractions.

Only visitors with reservations at the park’s campground or hotel will be allowed to enter or leave the park.

The decision to close the park was announced Friday evening.

A group of white supremacists and white nationalist had planned a “pro-white” rally at the park, but cancelled it Thursday citing internal division and fears for their personal safety.

A coalition of activist groups that had organized to counter protest the rally announced shortly thereafter they would still go to the park.

That group, whose size is unknown, plans to gather in the city of Stone Mountain and march into the park.

Stone Mountain Police Chief Chancey Troutman issued a statement Friday on the police department’s Facebook page saying the city would strictly enforce parking, traffic and trespassing regulations.

“This type of event may attract fringe elements seeking attention or with intent to cause trouble. These groups do not represent the Stone Mountain community, and we will not tolerate such folks disturbing the peacefulness of our village,” he said.
